Freelying coaching in Spain ? Are you ready to have your world
turned upside down?
.
Freeflying offers challenge, excitment and reward. The mode of skydiving used to learn to skydive ( flat flying ) is considered more two dimensional , with freeflying you have more freedom to move in three dimensions. Skills are initially learned in a one on one enviroment and then in accordance with the British Parachute Association guidelines you are bought through the varying staging posts of freeflying , FF1 and FF2.
.
But freeflying seems difficult and learning expensive ?
Most people the time they have made 25 jumps " have had a go ", but probably have ended spinning on their back. Usually this is because people are looking in the wrong place , instantly trying to sit or even go head down. Our BPA coach says " People must first be confident flying on their back , then in sit before moving onto flying on their head. " As such our highly tailored programme starts you at the appropriate point and you are led on a journey , where you will be challenged by some of the exercises but excited at the results! . The use of the wind tunnell in our Coaching early in your skydiving career gets you where you want to be in less jumps and with a lower cost . This is especially so when considered against learning solo and picking up bad habits which can be difficult to iron out or when compared to traditional coaching packages.
.
The British Parachute Association Approach.
The BPA system highlights well the various staging posts in terms of technical ability and what you must achieve in each orientation ( sit and head down ) before moving on. Our chief freefly instructor has written several articles on learning to freefly which you may have read in recent issues of Skydive the Mag ( distributed to 8000 UK skydivers ). Specifically the following are the ratings and what you will be able to do having completed the course for each one.
Our Approach to learning to freefly. Use the wind tunnell to save time and money.
We reccomenend some time in the wind tunnell with one of our instructors in advance of taking the course. Beginners especially will find this very useful. Think, that as many as your first ten coached jumps in this instance can involve little more than wobbling around the sky with little feedback from the coach. Normally in this environment the coaching comes after the jump is over.
Picture however that your coach can hold you in the tunnel as you learn to backfly and progressively learn to sit up. Its a much more " fun " and productive picture. Our Accelerated freefly programme allows you cut out wasted time and reduces your " total " cost of learning. The second phase of the training is then conducted here in Spain with the same coach you know , trust and importantly knows you . You could use the coaching time here to refine what you have learned , gain the FF1 stamp and move on to FF2.

BPA FF1 ( Sit Fly or head up ) - 6 Levels
- Level 1: Back flying and Headup (sit fly) position
For this level you will learn how to exit in a stable back fly position
and the learn to move into a headup (sit) position. You will refine your
headup position so you will have the greatest range of motion when you
start to learn more advanced skills.
- Level 2: Turns in Headup
For this level you will
learn how to perform a headup exit and then be able to control your heading throughout.
If you can control your heading then you will also be able to turn.
- Level 3: Loops (cartwheels,etc)
This level teaches you a variety of loops (front, back and cartwheels) so you can lose stability and regain it quickly.
- Level 4: Speed changes (Slowing down & Speeding
up)
Everyone is a different size and weight, this means we fall at different speeds. By changing our position we can learn to speed up or slow down and therefore are able to 'fly' with other freeflyers.
- Level 5: Horizontal movement (forwards & backwards)
By using the flowing air against our bodies we can learn to move forwards, backwards or even sideways. This is an important skill to be able to freefly with others.
- Level 6: FF1 Jump- Graduation . (Headup exit, Turns, Speed changes, cartwheels, move forwards, move backwards)
This
level combines all the skills we have learnt and allows us to show we can perform
them all in one jump. Once you have finished the level 6 jump we can issue you
with the BPA FF1 qualification.
.
The Route to FF2 or head down flying
The route to FF2 (controlled headdown) takes some time and patience. There is a different route for everyone depending on previous freefly experience. Depending on the candidates previous experience and ability the course is tailored. Early on we concentrate on changing angles back flying and tracking . Then we would work on Headup transitions flying particularly cartwheels. From this point we put you on your head more and more we give you the skills to help you " hang of your legs " upside down.
Although this route is different for everyone, a weeks intensive coaching will bring somebody who has the FF1 ( sit flying qualification ) to a point where they can fly head down in groups.
