British Armed forces training.

13 British Armed forces graduate Hybrid BPA A License Course in 4 days of jumping.

The Freefall University having been audited by the Royal Air Force and approved as a contractor to the British Armed forces recently played host to an official expedition from the Army College in Harrowgate . This training was funded by the British Army under the Adventurous training programme and forms part of the Army Colleges official training activities. 13 British Soldiers with no previous experience of skydiving completed the Frefall University Hybrid Tunnel Accelerated freefall program.

Tunnel and entire AFF course in 2 days. 2% repeat rate.

After an initial ground school covering the basic theory of human body flight and parachuting procedures each student spent 15 minutes flying with their AFF instructor in the 4,6m wind tunnel inorder to better prepare for their first skydive and the AFF course. Better prepared they could not have been for in a little over 2 days of jumping in Ocana all 13 soldiers had completed their BPA 8Level AFF course and graduated as solo skydivers under the tutelage of our resident British instructors.

10 Solo skydives each in 2 days

After 2 days of well-earned rest in which the students toured Madrid they returned to complete their ten consolidation solo skydives and qualified for the British Parachute Association A License, the paperwork for which was completed onsite in Spain.

We as a team are extraordinarily proud of our graduates and look forward to more Groups arriving this year from the British Armed Forces. This group has set the bar very high for those who follow with only 2 repeat jumps required in the entire group.

AFF Courses start every day and in as little as 2 days of jumping you too can be skydiving solo. Get in touch for details.

25 Degress , 2.5 Days and 3 …

Another bright and sunny day on the drop zone here in Ocana temperatures in the mid twenties ,, sweet as . Tim, one of our students has completed his AFF including ground school in 2 and a half days, is now progressing towards his BPA A License .. what an achievement.

His father was a Commanding officer in the RAF with an interest in parachuting  and so it was Tim´s ambition to follow  In his footsteps. We are sure that he has made his father proud.

Mikeal is a paraglidering fanatic from Sweden ; though  we have coverted him into an accomplished skydiver, he  has completed 70 jumps in the last 10 days after graduating AFF . .  He has Passed his Canopy handling 1 and 2 and done more advanced coaching with us too ..

He just popped into the office to let us know he wasnt going home , he relates to us  waking up to the prospect of going to Madrid airport and decided he was having none of it wanting to stay on the dropzone with us and keep jumping . .. We like your Style Mikael! Wing suit training next with Paula from the BB team  ( who incidentally successfully defended her gold at the world games last year ! )

Phil the Kid, as we like to call him, (there´s a story there, remember to ask him!) is hard working looking after our students . 3 years ago he joined us to complete his AFF course, and like Mikeal he enjoyed it so much decided to stay. He has completed hundreds of skydives in that time and worked initially in client care  but is now taking the next steps and is enrolled in our mentoring program to become an instructor in the school.  Phil will spend the next year in the ground team assisting with ground schools before going forward for his AFF instructors rating.

Ally and Kyle, who not only sport fantastic beards but drove from the UK  camper van, are progressing well, they decided that skydiving was for them after watching a few video´s about BASE jumping; having their sights set on that, they are learning the basics of flight.

We wish them all the best and Blue skies.

RED HOT CHILLI PÊPPERS

An early morning start . Section by Section we continue to build and expand our facilities. In the background is the packing hanger , the left is the manifest with ground control and to the right is one of our terraces from the bar.  We never stop improving , its something that drives us. We are working hard this year on new terraces and chill out areas .. Bean bags and large parasols recently added have been a big hit.  Were trying to figure out the logistics of big screens and projectors for the World cup now.

Joe,  Luke and Jon ready for the day to fire into action. Joe a flight attendant for BA gets to see the  world through his work, he told me that every time that he fly’s to the next country he wonders what the experience of jumping through the sky would be like.. After much time sat on that thought he is now with us in Ocana for the second time to complete his  Formation  skydiving course.

Provided the standards are met our BPA Advanced instructors can sign of BPA ratings onsite. British Instructors , british qualifactions but Spanish Sun 🙂

Good stuff Fred.. AFF and consols done in five days . Canopy in full flight with knees bent .. Your instructor thought you well Padawan 🙂

Vladamir from Russia, is a newly qualified Tandem master, he spends most his as camera man for Tandems. You’ll always here him joking and saying “VERY WELL, hello? VERY WELL?” He is a character not to miss and a great guy to talk with,  so if you find yourself with us here in Ocana, make sure you give him a shout.

Joe with Stephen and Daniel our german friends. Daniel has a lovely story to why he is here. His parents met through skydiving 45 years ago, unfortunately not on this DZ but still a amazing sequence of events then lead to Daniel our dropzone. After battling through some tough times he father always wanted to relight the fire that brought his parent together, as they stopped when the arrival of Daniel was expected. 45 years later, Daniel has passed his AFF with us here and has bought out our memorabilia in the shop, as well as an old jump suit. See you guys soon .

Advanced canopy courses are run daily on the dropzone now ( need your CH2, JM1 , Intro to ops manual  , BPA A B progression no problem … again courses start every day ) . Here a group is getting a final briefing on one of our courses for people with over 100 jumps .. Really the courses can be tailored to your needs, perhaps your having trouble with accuracy or the flare .. No problem we have the tailored course for you.

Here is a great picture board of the journey to the plane, every jump starts with preparation, rehearsing the exit to what you will be doing in the air, until everyone involved in the jump is happy with the practice they have put in. Our manifest team they give a 15, 10 and 5  minute call.  There are also flat panels dotted around the place with manifest loads and timings .. This is when our skydivers will prepare to check they rigs and then have another person (of correct qualification) to then double check the gear. Once the 10 and 5 minute call has passed the boarding will be announced. The most senior jumper will they work out who is to jump first and last and where the position of the skydiver are to sit.

Two aircraft run continously at the weekend and now we will start with two aircraft midweek.  A second bird will be opened up as needs be.  Our new fitted turbo 34 engines are doing the business nicely.. Wheels off to 13,500 feet in about 10 minutes ,, sweet as.

WEEKEND BEARDED BOOGIE

This week is wrapping up to be a blinder, the morning has started with a clear blue  skies Exactly, what we like!  The dropzone is buzzing with AFF, jumpers from our military contracts Lots of fun jumpers gearing up, plus the students are packed with endless energy, ready for an amazing day.  Both aircraft are rocking.. tandems get one plane we get the other 🙂

Yesterday saw the return of John, James, Tom, Carlo, Steve and Matt who came out last year. They clearly love the energy we produce on this DZ. In the words of Phil, happy days!

James, an electrical engineer, fell in love with the sport after realising that lying around on a sunny beach was frankly a waste of his time. 1 year later, he is back on the drop zone with his BPA A License,  he has his sights set on a wing suit jump in the not to distance future.

We seem to be attracting a collection of well behaved beards on the dropzone, we are trying to follow in that theme with a beard off between us all, we should have a vote to see who sports the best beard.

22 DEGREES , NEW ENGINES AND HUNDREDS OF SKYDIVES

IMG_4775

One of our Pilatus Porter PT6-34s has just come back from Switzerland after its 4 year overhual. Not only is it sporting new electronic instrumentation  but a clean bill of health  and  a new PT6- 34 engine from Pratt and Whitney. It is our dropzone policy to have two aircaft minimum on the dropzone at all times to provide lift capacity and redundancy.

We reckon we should nickname this bird ” The Rocket ” as it  now whisks our skydivers  up to 13,500 feet in cerca 10 minutes!

Mikael from Switzerland completed his AFF course with us just a few days ago and is now settling into his advance parachute  handling skills course , which encompasses as a basic the BPA  CH2 qualification ( available onsite ) . Mikeal use to drive rally cars profesionally back in his youth, but says that skydiving is now his new found love,  the ladies he says come in a close second..

Though the proof is in the pudding  a Mikeal  has purchased over 400 jumps for completion over the next few weeks with us , when asked what his objectives are he told us that he wants to progess into Birdman and BASE jumping within the next 6 months.  Why not ?

Our dropzone is host not only to  AFF advanced courses, instructors courses  but a growing number of fun jumpers from around Spain. We have wingsuiters freeflyers who are joined by former graduates of the school .. here a group of jumpers prepare for. a ” flock ” .

Our onsite bar whilst great as it is will be upgraded with an investment of 24,000 euros in the coming weeks . Stay tuned for details. We wish to develop further our onsite facilities. We also have a recretion room with British Sattelite TV  and wifi (desk space available for those who must work between jumps) and a host of other upgrades in the pipeline.

British Army Selects FFU as training partner

The  Freefall Uni Spain is  renowned on the international stage for its excellent ethic and facilities.  Recently we played host to the first of several offical training expeditions whereby the British Army pays for its soldiers to undertake sports parachuting training .

” Our offer is one of a great location with fantastic facilities to include fast turbine aircraft to 13,000 +  feet and the only landing area in Spain to meet the British Parachute Associations guidelines for size of its landing Area ” … David Cowman , director for the Freefall University Continued to say ” Selection by the British Army as a training partner marks a natural evolution as we strive to be  the leading training dropzone in Europe. We are gratified for the trust that has been placed in us by the Crown though of course our connection to the UK runs much deeper as we have for years being conducting civilian AFF courses terminating in the issue of British Parachute Association A License “. ( No need for fruther training or checking in the UK ).

The officers and men were accomodated in ” Aranjuez ” in the center of our student accomodation zone.  Aranjuez being a large town of 75,000 people popular with our Students and Spanish people alike provides a diverse nightlife that compliments skydiving nicely.

If you would like to book your AFF course with the Freefall Uni Spain get in touch today. Course start every day and there are a multitude of logistical and accomodation options. Talk to us about the adavantages of skydiving in Central Spain!
